Laurie Allyn -
Paradise (Mode/V.S.O.P Reissue)
It's 1957, Laurie is a young jazz singer with a intimate June
Christy-like sound flown in from Chicago and recording with a
studio full of musical heavyweights. Marty Paich is leading
folks like Al Viola, Red Mitchell, Don Fagerquist and Mel Lewis.
Felix Slatkin is the concertmaster and playing violin and Pete
Condoli shows up in the horns. They lay down the tracks during
three days in October in Los Angeles and everything was
solid...except the recording company, Mode Records. They
closed their doors a week later and the masters locked away
somewhere. Until 2004 when Bones Howe, who engineered and
sequenced all of the Mode releases, found the session tapes and
perfomed the mastering that was required to complete the album.
If this CD on V.S.O.P. was a car, it would considered a "barn
find". The Shelby Cobra in the barn. Enjoy! |
